Next time I need to … Stop swaying and not get too nervous.

Teacher Comment
Well done Arina - I thought that you did a fabulous job!  You worked really hard to write and prepare for your spoken word poetry.  Amazing overall idea, sophisticated vocabulary and rhyming words.

Next step - Speak louder and try not to sway (I know you were nervous!)

Spoken Word Poetry

If I could talk to animals…
1.Look at these animals, homeless and scared, if I could talk to them then it would be declared, no more poaching, shooting and caging, just kindness, caring and engaging.

2.Adults put down your phones and children, lose the I-pads.  Look around you… there’s important issues to discuss. Most likely the one I’m talking about right now and no it’s not a time to fuss.

3.If I say it real loud will you pay attention? Oh Mr Mac, please give these issues a mention!

4.“Rhinos and elephants, I’m sorry you’re hurting.  Suffering for human greed, it is a sacrifice indeed.  Killed for your horns and tusks, how terrible. We are killing creatures that are so incredible.”

5.They are a precious gem to some of us, so why murder them?
If it's for their skins, then you will pay for your sins.  Fur, leather meat and bones...these animals should have headstones.

6.The Okapi, Soala and Vaquita are just some that you might not hear, imagine what we could say to them if we had the care.

7.There are coyotes in the cities and foxes in the streets.  Not a fate that you or them would hope to meet. Heartbroken, frightened, confused and scared.  Would you care? I certainly would and here’s why we definitely should.

8.Do they simply entertain, prance around and be vain?  Busy bees pollinate plants and greens for hours and birds help disperse seeds which grow into flowers.  Insects and earthworms, slither and slide fertilising the soil, only for us to spoil.

9.Cows create milk, cream and cheese and best of all ice cream! So next time you see a cow, don’t run because they are getting shot one by one.

10.If you saw an animal in need, what would you do?  Turn away in disgrace or be its saviour? Maybe you’re like a soldier, ready to save these poor creatures, or maybe you’re careless and thoughtless and wouldn’t bother about their unique features.

11.Please listen to my plight, because I want you to fight! Rise to the challenge and make a difference to the world.
Donate, protest, speak out, shout!, raise awareness, write letters, volunteer, be clear!  Animals, homeless and scared are waiting to be declared.  Declared important, worth fighting for, worth making a change... worth treating kindly with a range of actions and words to exchange.

12.  I care about animals and want you to take action, find an idea and let it gain traction.   If I could talk to animals I would say…’’Stay strong, we will hopefully save you someday”.
